Going back to when I was in my early 20s and started diving into self-help literature. Those were the days of Tony Robbins and that guy who broke the internet by asking, “How bad do you want it?” Remember them?

It was such a long time ago. It’s amazing how time flies by so fast. So much has changed since then.

The Concept of Burning Bridges:

I remember watching this one video on YouTube where Mr. Robbins talked about burning bridges and taking over the island. I was quite inspired and even somewhat motivated by what he said. Today, I want to discuss the significance of this saying and what it actually means.

The Significance of Burning Bridges:

When you burn bridges, you essentially accept that you have no choice but to succeed. There is no safety net. There is no going back, as you cannot return. You can only go forward.

You psychologically prepare yourself to overcome the situation. When you know that you can’t go back, your actions might be more impactful.

Example:

Imagine a person who lost his job as a manager and is living from paycheck to paycheck. Based on his lifestyle, he fundamentally understands he won’t be able to pay his next month’s rent if he doesn’t find another job quickly.

What do you think he will do? Will he spend his time hanging out with friends and watching TV? Probably not.

Options and Outcomes:

There are essentially two ways to go about it: either call a friend and ask for help, or spend every day looking for another job. This is a matter of urgency and importance; any job at this moment in time will do.

Conclusion:

This is not the same as burning bridges and taking over the island, but the concept is similar, as it has to do with the power of commitment and determination.
